Wordless Wednesdays: Painting

So, I have this house and I want to make it look better.  What’s better than color, right?  So, when I found a treasure trove of painting supplies left by the last owner, I hit the paint store and picked a great color to add spice to my living room.  What follows is what happened when I painted my mantle.

Meh, right? So, I hit the Internets and they told me I could paint trim really easily and without a lot of taping.  Ok!  Minimal tape, check!  Let’s get some color!

I chose Relentless Olive because it sounds like a martini.

Houston, we have paint!

After the first coat.  This was when I realized more tape would have been a good idea.  Damn you Internets!

After the second coat.  See what I mean about tape being my friend? Painting in straight lines = Not my skill set.

Week 2 of painting.  I add more tape.

I also discover this gizmo which is way better than a roller!

All finished!  Not too shabby, huh?

Oh wait.  It is kinda shabby.  Guess I’ll be doing more painting to correct the mistakes I made.

First tip, forget the blue tape. You need Frog tape. You’re welcome. Second I painted the brick on my fireplace and LOVE it. I should post picks of that some day on my imaginary blog. Love the color. It is my favorite.

First, did you know that you have a mobile site? That is too cool!

As far as the painting goes, you will get better but you probably will always want to tape. One trick to avoid paint going undercthe tape is to paint over the tape with the color that is under the tape. So in your situation you would have first painted the creamy wall color and trim color over your blue tape to seal in that color. Then you would paint the green. More work? Yes. Worth the effort? Taken from your new from your friends over at

A sponge brush would probably give you more control on trim and other small projects too — no worries about the sides of the roller hitting stuff you don’t want it to. Oh, and that’s from a DIY channel junkie, NOT someone who has ever painted anything in her own home, since I’m still a renter. *grin*

So pretty! I love that color! Who makes Relentless Olive?

Oh, and the trim in my bedroom and my kitchen ceiling both look like that last picture there with the paint “overlap”. 🙂
