25 Good Government Mandates

Yesterday, I read this little gem from Sarah Palin in the Washington Post.

β€œIn my opinion any mandate coming from government is not a good thing,” Palin told reporters outside Bunker Hill in Massachusetts, the latest stop on her whirlwind bus tour up the east coast that began on Sunday.

She sure covered a lot of ground in one short sentence. All government mandates are bad if she’s to be believed. All of them. Not just the Romney approved mandate that all Massachusetts residents must have health insurance. ALL mandates.

I don’t think Mrs. Palin understands what the word mandate means outside of the healthcare argument because if she did, she might think fondly of these 25 government mandates that beneficially affect her personally:

  1. Title IX that ensures female students equal access to school sports
  2. The 1st Amendment that allows freedom hold events, that the press can attend, where one can profess faith, and criticize the government, all with no fear of official retribution
  3. OSHA regulations for sterile environments in hospital maternity wards
  4. Workplace safety laws for commercial fishermen
  5. Auto safety standards that apply to commercial vehicles like charter buses
  6. Prohibitions on murder
  7. Prohibitions on theft of personal property
  8. Prohibitions on rape
  9. Prohibitions on assault
  10. Banking regulations that require financial institutions insure deposits by customers
  11. The Alaska Statehood Act
  12. Training regulations for air traffic controllers who guide planes safely through the air
  13. The Americans With Disabilities Act that prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities such as Down Syndrome
  14. The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act that guarantees public education for those with disabilities such as Down Syndrome
  15. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that prohibits wage discrimination based on gender
  16. Licensing regulations that protect patients from untrained physicians
  17. Food safety regulations
  18. Drug safety regulations
  19. Building codes
  20. Equal employment standards
  21. Child labor laws. Oh wait. I bet those got in the way of filming her reality series with her kids. Never mind.
  22. The right to civil trial
  23. Laws that give women the right to own property separate from their dudes husbands
  24. Anti-miscegination statutes that make it permissible for people to marry regardless of race, including Native Alaskan heritage
  25. The 19th Amendment that requires all jurisdictions to allow women to vote

To be fair, listening to her antics, I’m pretty sure we shouldn’t allow women to vote πŸ˜‰

Fucking awesome list though! She truly is a nitwit

Well said. I believe she thinks “mandate” is a gay thing. You know, mandating in the government is bad, because all politicians should be heterosexual. And regulate, obviously means that you regularly run late…so there should be no government regulating either; everybody should be on time.

LOL @ Casey! There actually used to be a gay porn mag called ManDate, so I wonder if that’s what she’s thinking of, too.

As usual, thanks you. Great list which, as we know, is barely the tip of the iceberg.

OMG Casy you crack me up! I wish more people would actually listen to what she is saying and understand that its like asking a five-year old, “What is the meaning of life?” and getting the answer “To have cookies for snack.” Blah.

Palin bother the crap out of me. I was kind of happy to hear someone tagged her bus with “Fame Whore”

And this is why I love you. No need to call names or bash anyone. Simply remind people to use their words carefully. An maybe know a little about the topic they are speaking about.

I heard this clip on the radio, alone, in my car, and had to immediately quip out loud to the No One in the car with me, “Really? You’re against the government mandating that murder be illegal??” So glad I’m not the only one who immediately went there!
