Not One More

not one more.He hated women and he had guns. That’s really all we need to know.

Not one more.

They tell us we need to have access to guns to save ourselves. They say guns stop crime. Gun protect women. They say guns prevent tyranny.

Not one more.

I say they are wrong. I say guns kill women. I say guns kill children. I say guns kill cops.

Not one more.

I say gun owners with fantasies of stopping crimes or saving women or preventing tyrants are misguided. They are fools. I ask all of them this: How many crimes have you stopped with a gun? How many hours have you spent training in simulated live-shooter conditions? How much psychological training have you done to override the autonomic responses to danger that the body creates without your control? How prepared are you really – REALLY – to asses a live-shooter situation and fire a gun without killing more innocent people? I’d wager you stop NO CRIMES. You probably do NO TRAINING. Well. Maybe you go to a range and shoot at a solitary target that moves forward and back with clear visibility. Am I right? Because if I am, and I really think I am, you’re not actually helpful. You’re an amateur with a gun who would probably kill more innocent people in a firefight.

Not one more.

All those fools, those amateurs, those video-game heroes with visions of glory, the armchair patriots who think a gun makes them an American, need to stop. They are the cause of death of tens of thousands of Americans every year. They need to stop.

Not one more.

I don’t want to read about one more child dead from firing an unsecured weapon found in their home. I don’t want to read about one more woman murdered by a domestic partner. I don’t want to read about one more shooting in a school. I don’t want to read about one more man taking his guns into my world, my country and killing as many people as he can before killing himself. Not one more.

Not one more.

Tell Congress. Tell your governor. One click to send a postcard. Not one more.
