There’s a lot of hot air pupping around about contraception falling under mandatory insurance coverage rules. Apparently some people don’t want their money going into a group coverage pool that pays for birth control on moral or religious grounds. I would like to offer this list of things my tax dollars have paid for despite my moral objections so everyone can gain a sense of perspective.
- The war in Afghanistan that killed a friend of mine and a former lover of mine.
- The war in Iraq.
- Testing provisions under No Child Left Behind.
- Capital punishment.
- Antonin Scalia.
- The Kenneth Starr investigation of Bill Clinton.
- Military contractors who cover up the rape of employees.
- Tax breaks for petrochemical companies.
- The White House Office of Faith Based Initiatives
- Dick Cheney.
- Warrantless wiretapping.
- Guantanamo Bay as a detention center.
- Continued development of the Osprey aircraft.
- Military drones in civilian areas overseas.
- The Bush era tax cuts (a.k.a. revenue reducers during wartime).
- Laws that undermine public employee union benefits.
- Cuts to WIC.
- Mandatory drug offense sentences that don’t rehabilitate people or stop drug crimes.
- The Defense of Marriage Act.
- Don’t Ask Don’t Tell rules before they were repealed.
- Laws allowing guns in National Parks.
- Abstinence only sex education programs.
- Any discussion of religion (e.g. creationism) in science classes.
- Mortgage deregulation.
- John Ashcroft.

You are brilliant. As always.
Totally agree. As usual
Great post. I want to join a rally somewhere with a big huge sign that says “NO VIAGRA FOR CATHOLIC MEN”
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, guys.
LOVE. Fantastic post. 🙂
I couldn’t have said it better if I tried!
Oh, didn’t you get the memo? None of that counts… because you’re a girl. You will pay for stuff despite any objection you may have at all.
Also, put this vaginal probe up your who-ha, now.
😉
Fantastic, succinct list.
yes! Yes! YES!!!
This list is absolutely ridiculous.
Sorry. But I disagree with the majority of you list.
1. A necessary evil that needed to be dealt with
2. See #1
4. Wish there was more “eye for an eye”.
5. Really? This is a democracy.
7. Why not all rape cover ups? Why pick on military contractors.
10. See #5
11. There’s no such thing.
12. Is your house available to host evil?
13. What’s your issue with having a strong militay. Didn’t you say you
lost loved in AF?
14. Maybe we should send troops. Ooops. We know how you feel about that.
19. How can you be against something that doesn’t exist
20. See #19.
21. Can I ask why? How about you be against guns in the hands of criminals?
22. Where is that program being taught? Why not be responsible and teach your kids sex education instead of letting others do it?
25. See #5
Go hang out at one of your Occupy Wallstreet locations.
Dear Cyrano – Uh – you seem to have missed the point. The list wasn’t to convince you to agree with her opinions, just to point out that we all have to pay taxes for things of which we are morally opposed.
How about you go to your Tea Party convention and find ways to give more government money to billionaires while those same billionaires figure out more ways to decrease your salary and reduce your health care benefits. Those guys really need your help.
Dear Required…..it seem that her point is to bash Conservatives. If it were up to most Americans….we’d pay no taxes.
BTW: My salary went up and so did my health care…..and I voted for Obama.
Dear Cyrano –
What do you mean Defense of Marriage Act doesn’t exist? It’s been a federal law since 1996 when Bill Clinton signed it.

Love! Especially #5, 10 and 25. Love.
Great perspective Momma!
Yes, her point is that we all pay taxes for things that we don’t support. The specifics of what those items are do not matter.
Nice to meet you! I haven’t been here before.
Fabulous!
Dick Cheney, cracked me up.
totally. sick of this – “My tax dollars won’t go to that!” bullshit when it serves conservative morality. It truly disgusts me.
HA! This list is fantastic … as is the point you’re so eloquently making. Just found your site and it looks like I’ll be here for a while :-).
I would add
#26. The Patriot Act.
Stripping away civil liberties when Americans were most vulnerable and scared. YAY US.
