I have another new column up at the Washingotn Times Communities! It’s all about why I don’t want a Dirty Dancing remake.
But the artistic reasons to object to this remake pale in comparison to my fear for what may happen to the plot and the politics of the picture. You see, the central story revolves around Baby learning to dance so she can fill in for Penny while Penny gets an illegal abortion. This movie, this mainstream love story, this iconic film that made so many young hearts throb, deals with one of the most divisive issues of our time. And no one ever talks about it.
