Bieber Shots: The Art of the Bieb

Well. Did I have a hot date last week! Yes, yes, I did. I went out with Justin Bieber!

As I explained in a vlog, I am dating Justin Bieber…in doll form. The Biebs and I hit the town to visit one of my favorite DC haunts: the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery. This museum is located in the old patent office building and it’s architecturally marvelous all on it’s own. It’s the place to go to see portraits of presidents, famous Americans of the 20th century, amazing contemporary pieces by American artists, and special exhibitions like a collection of Norman Rockwell paintings on loan from Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. And on Friday, you could see a mommy-blogger with a Justin Bieber doll and a camera documenting a museum visit that could only be described as sublime in its idiocy. When I wasn’t surreptitiously photographing a doll that would burst into song whenever I shoved it back in my bag, I was staring gape-jawed at a two story Jenny Holzer masterpiece in the contemporary art gallery and explaining the history of Chuck Close to an 11-year old who got too close to me when I was admiring the Close portrait of Bill Clinton. Apparently I am that kind of asshole who talks too much about art to strangers in museums.

Anyway, I made it out without getting arrested or committed so I call it a big win. Yes, I felt like a tremendous tool doing this. No, I don’t regret it for a second. I put the highlights into the beautiful slideshow below so that you, too, can enjoy…the Art of the Bieb.

Hilarious! I am seriously fascinated by the way your brain works. And oddly in awe of it.

I took my daughter to the Smithsonian American museum a couple of years ago, and described it as the museum “with all the STUFF, like Fonzie’s jacket.” Her reply? “Who’s Fonzie?” Ouch. I did visit the National Gallery 3 times on my own on that trip. Who could resist the tiny Vermeers?!

It’s actually better then what I had hoped it would be. I’m actually kind of ashamed how excited I am about this. I actually had to wait to respond to this post until now because my phone was hating the slide show. But I totally love it. Love. It.

So, it does look like a great first date with the Bieber and you. You guys have any further excursions planed? Yes? 😀
