Big Money

I just heard that Brett Favre could earn as much as $20,000,000 to play football this season. Twenty. Million. Dollars. To throw a ball. That got me thinking. What would $20,000,000 buy?

  • 100,000 pap smears
  • 10,000,000 school lunches
  • 400 annual salaries for teachers
  • A year’s in-state tuition and fees for 2,000 students at the University of Maryland
  • 298 annual salaries for registered nurses
  • A year of health insurance for 1111 families
  • Prenatal care for 10,741 women
  • 100,000 mammograms
  • 1,000,000 fall coats for kids
  • 200,000 eye exams

So. Brett Favre. What are you going to do with $20,000,000?

All costs are approximate based on quick internet searches for average costs.

    wow.

I hope he, and others who earn similar amounts, reads this.

Wow. You really put that into perspective. That would also take care of the medical bills for 20 premature babies spending any significant time in the NICU. Wish I knew how to throw a ball =)

Ugh. As a Minnesotan and Viking fan/Packer hater, Brett Favre makes me sick. The end.

Do I think the man makes an absurd amount of money? Yes. Do I think most professional athletes also make an absurd amount of money? Yes. Am I still happy to have Favre? Yep.

I would hope at the very least that he makes very generous contributions to charity – because it is wrong you can make that much money for throwing a ball. But, like I said, it isn’t the first time an athelete has made that much, and at least he didn’t claim it was to “feed his family” (ahem, Latrel Sprewell (sp?)). This is a problem with professional sports overall – not just Brett Favre.

Love it!! What a world it would be if he actually led the way and did some of those things with that money. Wish some one would stand up and lead that charge!
