I’m going to try a little something different here today. My life basically kicks ass. I have a warm house, clean running water, a healthy kid, a great husband and we’re both gainfully and happily employed. There’s not much I should really be bitching about. Except, you know, all the things I bitch about.
To counter-balance all the griping I do, I’m going to use this space to highlight organizations that are valuable to the community. Generally, these will be DC area organizations because the community I care the most about is my own (no offense to all the other communities out there. I’m sure you’re very nice and all). The goal is to raise awareness of great organizations doing great work. If you live near an organization that I highlight, please, learn more about them and, if you have the will and the means, do a little something to help them out. It takes a village to be a village, local, global or otherwise.
The one thing I won’t do is ever stump for the organization I work for. Not that it isn’t great and not that donations don’t make my day go round, I just want everyone to be assured that I’m not benefiting personally from endorsing non-profits here.
So for my inaugural Thankful Thursday Charity, I choose the Capital Area Food Bank of DC.
Here’s their mission in a nutshell (as taken from their wesbite).
Founded in 1980 on Martin Luther King Jr
Stoppin' on by from SITS! Glad to see you recognizing organizations in your community. I work for the Red Cross and have witnessed first hand the AMAZING work Food Banks can do for people in need!
I can't get to your profile to comment over on your blog, but thanks for stopping by! And I was actually planning to do a post on the Red Cross in the near future so watch this space!
